St. Colmille founded a monastery here.  The large stone cross, above, still survives from the early monastery.  The cross, possibly of 11th century date, shows Adam and Eve, Cain slaying Abel, Daniel in the Lion's Den, and Christ in Glory on the east face.  On the west side is the Presentation in the Temple and the Crucifixion.
